Fascinating psychiatry
Recently I met one interesting person.
He was admitted to my hospital for a very bad infection, requiring stay in the ICU for a while.
He was well after being transferred back to the ward but a few days later, started to develop weird behaviour. He was blessing everyone in the ward, including our specialist. He was playing with the alcohol hand rub, disposable gloves (claims has glove fetish) and many other things. He was restless, walking about in the hospital, wearing bright coloured clothes (no idea where he got them from) on top of his hospital attire and scaring other patients and their relatives by his weird behaviour.
We thought he had that because of his stay in the ICU (it is quite normal for patients who have been in the ICU for quite some time to develop psychosis) but after interviewing his family, he actually had once been admitted to the psychiatric ward 40 years ago.
After that, he was never followed up anywhere because family claimed that the doctor told them he was highly intelligent and that was that.
Anyway, he became more uncontrolled in the ward as he started to sexually harass the female staff, hence we had to restrain him on the bed. Interestingly, he never harassed me, because he thinks I’m a vampire (he’s not into vampires) and a friend of his friend, Onexus (from his description, Onexus is actually another patient in the ward).
Then friends and family came to visit. They (especially his friends) could not accept our explanation on why he was being restrained because they think that it is normal for him to behave like that as he has been behaving like that for the past 25 years.
I mean, WTF??? Something was definitely going on in his mind and everyone thought he was normal???
I’m the one he would talk the most to. Among interesting things that he told me were:
1.I’m a vampire and so was he. He agreed to take the crushed medications mixed with water that I prepared for him just because I told him that was blood.
2. He is god… Sometimes he was Allah, sometimes he was the holy trinity (according to him, it takes THREE to tango – either 2 male & 1 female or the other way round
) and sometimes he was the creator of god(s).
3. The Lord of the Rings trilogy was written by him but using someone else’s name.
4. He directed many movies using other people’s names (he did list down the names but I’ve forgotten who). He had also acted in some of the movies with Onexus.
5. 2012 is going to be the end of the world. Currently the world is melting right in front of our eyes. He showed me the ‘melting’ wall and beds in the ward.
6. He’s an inventor. He asked me to open a packet of sweets so that he could have one of the analog copies because he wanted to turn them to digital (whatever that means).
7. It took ages for mankind to create computers and now we can buy Acer computers (I don’t know why of all brands, he chose Acer) for only RM2000, which is the price of a can of Jacob’s biscuit.
8. I have a very good heart but I am an also a primitive programme. He said I’m still on Windows 95 and I should upgrade myself to Windows XP.
Most interestingly, he offered to raise my salary to RM20000 a month if I would release him from the bed! He said I was stupid to be working so hard and not taking any leaves.
Isn’t psychiatry fascinating?

A couple of cool pick-up lines there:
1) I’m a vampire, so are you.
2) You are still on Windows 95, should upgrade to Windows XP.
Hahaha!

He was THAT interesting? Dang, should had took a look at that patient when you told me to. I saw the psychiatrist coming over to evaluate him.
We have one having ICU psychosis too in male ward now. He literally prayed to one of our specialist. Took a lot to not laugh out loud when it happened.

Psychiatrist: How old are your children?
Him: They’re all older than me.
Psychiatrist: How is that possible?
Him: I am ahead of my time.
*** He did tell me 3 days ago that he is turning 1 day old on his birthday this week. ***
Me and Dr Paran were quietly laughing in the other cubicle when the psychiatrist came to see us and said, “I think he has to teach me a thing or two.”
Eki, he is NOT a case of ICU psychosis. He’s a clear cut bipolar disorder in manic phase. You should’ve seen the way he blessed our specialist. So cool!!!
By the way, we also have a case of ICU psychosis in the ward.
naim, this morning I had to take his blood for several tests. Initially he refused but when I explained that a vampire needs to eat too, he let me take his blood without protesting.

The moment Paran walked in, the ward was turned upside down.
That guy is really really jonah. Were you there on his first day in surgical? One patient collapsed less than 15 minutes after we saw him during the morning round (he was well then, talking and eating). He started his first day in 4B by intubating that guy!
