Farewell lunch
I have about 3 weeks left in the Department of General Surgery (if I am not extended
). Hence me and 6 other friends who would soon be leaving the department (5 of whom were my friends since I was in O&G) organised a lunch party for all the staff of the department.
It was Farah’s idea to decorate the place with balloons. Reluctant as I was, I did buy the balloons for her… and blew them all (she doesn’t know how to tie them). It wasn’t an easy feat, considering I had about 50 balloons to blow.
We even considered of asking our patients who have to practice their incentive spirometry (some sort of exercise for the lungs) to blow the balloons for us.
I also bought some snake balloons so that we could learn how to make animals out of them.

The red mouse was done by me using the remnant of a ‘dead’ poodle while the green creature was made by my MO.
.
The event started with a short speech by our specialist who also acts as our supervisor in the department. He did comment that he didn’t expect us to elaborately decorate the place with balloons as if for a birthday party.

.
Indeed, it did turn into a birthday party when Elango arrived with a Chocolate Indulgence (again
) cake from Secret Recipe for me and Letch… We both share the same birthday.

.
It was my specialist (whom I sang Christmas songs with during a surgery – appendicectomy turned to laparotomy & limited hemicolectomy – at 3am
) who put on the candles on the cake.

.
He then lead the crowd to sing the birthday song… We blew the candles… And cut the cake.

.
The food was really good (catered by Little Caterers). Had chicken tandoori and some mutton dish which I could not remember the name as well as several types of curries along with naan bread, plain rice and string hoppers. We had ice-cream for dessert.
Needless to say, I had a great day. Unfortunately many people could not make it to the event due to unforeseen circumstances. Even the HOD was stuck in the OT.
