Raya Haji 2009
I was on call on the day before raya and was stuck in OT assisting a laparotomy for perforated bowel from 6.30am until 10am on raya morning. The lead surgeon (none other than our head of department), the 1st assistant, the anaesthetist and the scrub nurses were all Malays. And they played the azan raya and raya songs on the computer in the operating room!
Then had to do rounds in the wards (and for some reason, despite not being on call on that day, had to do periphery – patients under different disciplines who have been referred to usĀ for surgical problems – rounds too). Only managed to get a shower at around 12.30 noon.
Hence, my baju raya was the OT scrubs. My friends were quick to comment on that.
I didn’t have any raya morning meals and I was starving but shops were closed. The last meal I had was at 6.30pm the previous day, which was actually my ‘lunch’ for that day. Good thing there’s Pizza Hut.
Went straight to bed once I got home and only woke up at 11pm.
Happy Eid! Selamat Hari Raya, everyone!
