Welcome home, Princess!!! :D

Princess finally returned home at 23:48 27/12/09 after going missing for three days (last seen at home at around midnight 24/12/09).

I am so extremely glad that she’s finally home. I feel like jumping up and down the bed like a little kid now but I have to go to work tomorrow so I guess it is better for me to go to sleep.

Disappointment

For the past few days, my room in the new house had been the ‘laundry’ room, with the combination of my new coat hanger and room fan acting as a dryer.

Today, my bedroom set arrived.

img_6357

.

Three (main) reasons why I chose the set were…

1. I like the design of the bed

img_6356

.

2. I like the finishing.

img_6361

.

3. I like the handles on the drawers and wardrobe doors.

Unfortunately, the wardrobes were too big to pass through my bedroom window. One ended up in the guestroom and the other for Mama’s use. :(

From Shah Alam to Setia Alam

We have officially moved house on the… errrmmm… 22/12/2009?

I’m still torn between the two houses. Most of my belongings are still there. In fact, I’ve only moved some of my clothes yesterday. Previously, I’d go back to sleep/ shower in Shah Alam. :)

Anyway, that house in Shah Alam currently looks like as if it has been hit by a huge tornado. We’re taking it easy in moving the things. We have lots and lots of books and until we’re not transferring them over until we have the built-in book shelf ready in the new house.

img_6319

This is only a tiny fraction of our collection of books, ranging from my kindergarten books (yes, I refused to throw them away) to comics and  thick encyclopedias.

.

We moved most of our old furnitures on 23/12/09.

img_6325

.

Everything is slowly but surely being transferred to  Setia Alam.

img_6257

.

Meanwhile, Mama is being kept busy sewing the curtains for the new house.

img_6267

Kona’s room sure has a very nice view during sunset.

I invited some friends from work for dinner on Christmas eve. Actually, it was meant to be a gaming session but Ba’ah suggested that we have BBQ for dinner… which was actually a very practical thing considering we still don’t have a stove yet.

For some reason, they didn’t arrive until very late… And left my house very late too. Despite having to go to work early the next morning, they didn’t leave until 2am!

What did we do? We played Guitar Hero & Rock Band, of course! :D

But most importantly, our cute black cat, Princess has gone missing for 2 days now!!! I really wish she’d come back… SOON. :(

By the way, happy christmas and happy new year, everyone. :)

Abby & Pijoy

Both of them are my colleagues at work.

Abby has been my neighbour since I was in primary school. We were classmates… and so was Pijoy. We lost contact during secondary school years when everyone went to different boarding schools (except me, who chose to stay near home so that I could take up music as part of my secondary school subjects).

Many years later, Abby and Pijoy met again… fell in love… And got married today.

Despite me half running in heels to get there, I got to the mosque just as they were finishing the doa. Damn, I missed the akad!

img_6032

.

After what felt like more than an hour later (it was actually just about half an hour, though  ), we made our way from the mosque to the bride’s house for the reception.

img_6093

.

Initially, they wanted the newlyweds to take the car to the bride’s house (which is less than 2-minute walk away)…

img_6087

.

But somehow they changed the plan.

img_6126

.

It was accompanied by kompang beats by the music students from my old secondary school…

img_6103

.

Who changed costumes as soon as they arrived at the house so that they can continue with the gamelan performance. How I wished Mazni, Atie, Hanie, Shila and the rest of my gamelan gang (when I was in school) were there so that I could play it again just like what we did at Saadah’s wedding early this year.

img_6225

They’ve repainted the set brown!!!

.

Not many of our work colleagues turned up… Many of them are on call today. :(

I thought that I’d be meeting quite a number of my old school friends but unfortunately many of them couldn’t make it today. Even Saz had to leave early. However, it was good to meet Fatihatul again (last time I saw her was in 1995). It was also a surprise to see Along there with her husband and son.  :)

img_6250

.

Needless to say, they were all asking when would my turn be. Oh, well… Can we please not talk about it? I’m getting bored of the topic. Que sera sera.

After work food hunt at Damansara Uptown

1 evening, 7  house officers, 1 medical officer, 3 food outlets.

Our initial plan was to go to Hokano for sushi that evening but unfortunately the place was closed so we ended up at the Treehouse Bistro.

We were definitely in our hyperactive mode that evening. Farah pretended to smoke…

While Ah Hong and Tada started the anti-smoking campaign.

After dinner, we discovered that our tummies were still not filled to the brim… So we walked to a nearby Swedish restaurant which I have forgotten the name (but I still remember where it is and will definitely go there again! :D )

I ordered chocolate banana pizza with ice-cream. Yummy stuff! :D

I am involved in a very complicated scandal involving Sean, Jules, Tada and Ah Hong (that’s basically all the housemen in my ward  ) and we do make things appear as dramatic as possible at every opportunity we could.

Muahahahaha! Sean got rejected!

Imagine my surprise when I turned my attention back to my plate to find it empty!

Me: Where’s my last pizza piece???

Tada: Mmm… * munch munch *

We almost stopped by at Baskin Robbins after finishing our meals at the Swedish place but for some reason which I could not remember, we did not.

Instead, we proceeded to Starbucks for coffee.

Stuffed to the max. We could hardly move after that.

.

We had a great outing that evening; thanks to our MO, Dr Vicky who claimed that she’s tired of playing babysitter to us, kids.

By the way, I had no idea how and why I look so extremely fat in this picture. No, I’m not pregnant.

Farewell lunch

I have about 3 weeks left in the Department of General Surgery (if I am not extended ;) ). Hence me and 6 other friends who would soon be leaving the department (5 of whom were my friends since I was in O&G) organised a lunch party for all the staff of the department.

It was Farah’s idea to decorate the place with balloons. Reluctant as I was, I did buy the balloons for her… and blew them all (she doesn’t know how to tie them). It wasn’t an easy feat, considering I had about 50 balloons to blow. We even considered of asking our patients who have to practice their incentive spirometry (some sort of exercise for the lungs) to blow the balloons for us.

I also bought some snake balloons so that we could learn how to make animals out of them.

2009-12-07-farewell-lunch

The red mouse was done by me using the remnant of a ‘dead’ poodle while the green creature was made by my MO. :D

.

The event started with a short speech by our specialist who also acts as our supervisor in the department. He did comment that he didn’t expect us to elaborately decorate the place with balloons as if for a birthday party.

img_5570

.

Indeed, it did turn into a birthday party when Elango arrived with a Chocolate Indulgence (again :D ) cake from Secret Recipe for me and Letch… We both share the same birthday. :D

img_5583

.

It was my specialist (whom I sang Christmas songs with during a surgery – appendicectomy turned to laparotomy & limited hemicolectomy – at 3am  ) who put on the candles on the cake. :D

img_5581

.

He then lead the crowd to sing the birthday song… We blew the candles… And cut the cake. :)

img_5606

.

The food was really good (catered by Little Caterers). Had chicken tandoori and some mutton dish which I could not remember the name as well as several types of curries along with naan bread, plain rice and string hoppers. We had ice-cream for dessert. :D

Needless to say, I had a great day. Unfortunately many people could not make it to the event due to unforeseen circumstances. Even the HOD was stuck in the OT. :(

2003 in memory…

** This post was meant to be published during my birthday last year but somehow I totally forgot about it. Even the pictures have gone missing. **

There were not many birthdays that I remember in vivid details but the one in 2003 was indeed a special one.

It was my first birthday in Dublin, having arrived there less than 4 months prior.

I was given a nice surprise from my dearest housemates just after midnight by waking me up from sleep. Actually I wasn’t really asleep. I was pretending to so that I wouldn’t spoil their surprise.

I was asleep earlier on (no thanks to my attempt to read my anatomy book) but woke up when they came home at around 11pm. Then I wasn’t able to sleep because I knew they were up to something. At midnight, sleep was impossible as SMSs began to stream in.

I tried to be as quiet as I could, replying all the well-wishers while pretending to be asleep under the duvet.

When they shook me up from sleep and sang me the birthday song, I tried my best to put up a sleepy and surprised look. I guess I did ok because they never suspected anything. I would have loved to be properly surprised but how did you expect me to sleep when I knew something was up?

Sorry for deceiving you guys, Joni, Viki & Pao Ying. I didn’t want to spoil the surprise that you have planned.

Had a great time that night morning. :D

My birthday present from them was a long sleeved black cotton T-shirt… with a cute doggie and my name on it. It was my favourite T-shirt when I was in Dublin (it was warm and comfortable) but unfortunately it’s too warm to be worn in Malaysia.

But the biggest surprise came on the morning of 6 December 2003.

Someone knocked on the door at around 10.30am, looking for a certain Miss Nuraini. With him was a cute cuddly teddy bear.

It was a birthday gift from my mum! And it was Boka’s suggestion to look up for gift shops which provide delivery services online. Even though I’ve never been a big fan of teddy bears, I simply loved the one that I received that morning. I still have it with me now. My only teddy. :D

Happy Birthday to me! :D

It’s the time of the year again when people tell you that you’re officially older. Ha… ha… ha…

Anyway, Ba’ah took us to a steamboat reastaurant at Tesco Setia Alam (I don’t remember the name of the place) for dinner on the eve of my birthday. We’ve never been there so Ba’ah wanted to try it out.

Verdict: Nothing much to shout about. Oh, but the drinks are good. :D

Mama bought me Chocolate Indulgence from Secret Recipe on my birthday (actually I wanted Cappuccino Cheesecake but Mama doesn’t eat cheesecakes).

* We love cakes and would always find excuses to buy them… Birthday is just one of them. ;)

img_5467

I can’t remember the last time we wrote anything on our cakes. We just couldn’t be bothered.

.

Mama gave me 6 new pairs of baju kurung for work (they’re not yet ready… at the current moment – in Ba’ah’s car – on the way to our tailor in Kelantan  ). She also gave me her bottle of Dior’s J’adore a few weeks back (so it doesn’t really count as my birthday gift, does it? ) because that perfume has been associated with me for the past few years and even though she bought it for herself, she wasn’t comfortable wearing it.

I also received several pairs of lingeries (ahem… naughty, naughty… I used to give my friends naughty toys and lingeries for their birthdays too just for the fun of it ;) ) and a box of Dior Addict 2 from my friends. Thanks! I love them! :D

img_5464

.

Thanks to everyone who remembers my birthday and sent messages to my emails, phones (yes, I’m a psycho who has 3 phones  ) and Facebook. Thank you for the thought and wishes. Really appreciate them. :)

On the other hand, Mama’s needlecraft adventures currently focus on soft toys. Today she made a very Chinese-looking cat.
